Dr Jane Yap is a Senior Respiratory Consultant in private practice since 2001 at Mount Alvernia Hospital specializing in:

  • asthma
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • tuberculosis
  • lung cancer

  • chronic cough
  • pneumonia

Trained as a specialist in Internal and Respiratory Medicine at National University of Singapore (MBBS 1982, Master of Medicine 1987) with Postgraduate Respiratory attachment in Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London (1989-1990) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Respiratory Medicine), Singapore since 1991, she is a founding member of the Asthma Association Singapore that was registered in 1993. She was the President of the association in 1995 and 1999. She was also an active committee member of the Singapore Thoracic Society from 1987 – 1995.

Dr Yap helped formulate in 1997 the STEPS (Singapore Tuberculosis Elimination Programme) after one year as Singapore’s representative in the World Health Organization (WHO) Tuberculosis Surveillance Team (1996-2000) and TB Advisory Committee (1996).

She was Acting Head (1996-1997) of the Tuberculosis Department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Consultant at Respiratory Department of the said hospital prior to private practice. She helped to manage the Occupational Lung Clinic from 1988 – 2001.

At Mount Alvernia Hospital, she was Chairman (2003) of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Prevention Committee, Chairman (2004-2007) of the Hospital Infection Control Committee and Member (2004-2006) of the Medical Advisory Board.

She is the principal author of more than 35 papers published in Local and International Journals and had presented in a number of International Conferences. She was a clinical tutor for medical students, doctors and nurses while in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr. Lee Yeow Hian is a Consultant Respiratory and Sleep Physician, and  Intensive Care Specialist  currently practicing  at the Mount Alvernia Hospital.  

Dr Lee graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine at the Queen's University of Belfast in 1997. He underwent his basic medical training in the United Kingdom and subsequently became  a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).  Following that,  Dr Lee  embarked upon his advanced training in Respiratory Medicine in Alexandra Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore.  

Dr Lee was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program Award to pursue  a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at  The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Sydney where he trained under world leaders in Sleep Medicine such as Professor Ron Grunstein. He obtained his Masters degree in Sleep Medicine at  the University of  Sydney in 2007, where he worked with another doyen in field, Professor Colin Sullivan, the inventor of CPAP (Continuous Airway Pressure) therapy. This makes him one of the few Sleep Medicine Specialists in Singapore who are registered  with the Singapore Medical Council.

Since returning  to Singapore, Dr. Lee was appointed as the principle physician-in-charge of the sleep laboratory in Alexandra Hospital and subsequently in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Prior to setting up his  private practice, Dr Lee  was a Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was instrumental in developing its  sleep services. He continues to be a visting consultant and helms the sleep services in both Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.  

Dr Lee is accredited as a specialist in intensive care medicine by the Ministry of Health in Singapore and was appointed as a trainer in intensive care medicine by the joint committee on specialist training.

Dr. Lee is recognised for  his expertise in Sleep Medicine and has been invited to speak at major scientific conferences internationally as well as in the region, including the World Congress of Sleep Apnoea in Seoul in 2009.  He is passionate about the education and professional development of Sleep Medicine Professionals and has been involved in the training of sleep physicians and technologists in Singapore as well as in the region.

Dr Jim Teo Yeow Kwan is a respiratory physician and intensivist based in Mount Alvernia Hospital and Parkway East Hospital. He is a specialist in internal medicine, respiratory medicine and intensive care medicine with special interests in asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, non-invasive ventilation and intensive care medicine.  He is also a visiting senior consultant to JurongHealth, providing specialized respiratory services to Alexandra Hospital and Ng Teng Fong Hospital. Presently, he is also the ICU adviser to Mount Alvernia Hospital and ICU director to Fortis Surgical Hospital.

Dr Jim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997. He trained in general medicine and obtained the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and the MRCP(UK) in 2003. He continued with sub-specialty training in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Singapore and was accredited by the Specialist accreditation Board as a Specialist in Respiratory Medicine in 2007. Following this, he further obtained the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and the MRCP. Further that, he spent a year doing Intensive Care Medicine in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Australia. He had obtained both the European Diplomas in Intensive Care Medicine and Adult Respiratory Medicine.

Prior to joining private practice, Dr Jim was a Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine in TTSH. He managed patients in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), including critically ill cases from the H1N1 pandemic in 20009 and oncology patients from John Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre. He also initiated the first bedside percutaneous tracheostomy in the MICU, TTSH. Besides managing ICU patients, he also provided expertise to managing patients in Non Invasive Unit in TTSH and Tuberculosis Control Unit in Singapore. For his achievements in the public sector, Dr Teo was awarded the Courage Star Award in 2003 for his contribution during the SARS outbreak. He was also awarded TTSH Excellent Service Award in 2006, and TTSH 10 Year Long Service Award in 2009.

Dr Jim loves to teach and is still actively involved in the education of young doctors and nurses. Presently, he is the instructor for Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course and Fundamental Critical Care Support Course in Singapore. He is a Clinical Teacher for medical undergraduate teaching, National University of Singapore and intensive care medicine Trainer   appointed by specialist training committee. He was a Core Resuscitative Skills Training instructor in TTSH and NUH Intensive Medicine Course instructor.

Currently, Dr Jim sits in the various medical committees in Mount Alvernia Hospital, including Medical Advisory Board, Quality Assurance and Continuous Medical Education. He is also the chairman of Critical Care Unit and Operation Theatre Committee. He also sits in the Medical Advisory Board in Fortis Surgical Hospital and chairs the OT, ICU and Code Blue Committee.
