Dr Leslie Ng
Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon,
Island Orthopaedic Consultants

Dr Leslie Ng is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Island Orthopaedic Consultants. Dr Ng is at the forefront of spine surgery and well-versed in the use of advance technology to make the surgery safe and cost effective. This includes the use of ultrasonic bone scalpel rather than traditional bone cutter that may endanger the nerve or spinal cord; deploying real time nerve root monitoring devices during spine surgery to ensure prevent nerve injury and computer navigation for pedicle screw insertion whenever necessary for complex spine cases. He has considerable experience in evidence-based interventional pain procedures for chronic neck and back pain management including the latest generation of nucleoplasty ”˜Disc “Fx' system for degenerative intervertebral disc disorder.

Dr Ng is a United States certified user of lateral access spine surgery and conceptualized the technique of ”˜indirect decompression' of spinal canal. This is the first time lumbar inter-body fusion can be performed with decompression of the spinal canal with total preservation of facets joint, unlike the standard technique of transforaminal inter-body fusion technique which require removal of facets joint.

Dr Ng graduated from the University of London, United Kingdom in 1998. He was the first Asian trainee accepted in the pioneer two year spine surgery national fellowship training programme in England. He previously practised at the world renowned Centre for Spine Studies and Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, University Teaching Hospital of Nottingham under the mentorships of Mr. John Webb and Mr. Michael Gevitte. He focused on developing advance spine surgical technique for complex spine deformity and pathologies.

Dr Ng is Adjunct Assistance Professor at National University Hospital and is also the spine fellowship programme director.
